Osman Küçük

The founder of our company, the inventor of the working principle of the portable fire pumps we manufacture, and the holder of the patents for this system, our Honorary Chairman of the Board, the late Osman Küçük, was born on February 1, 1948, in the Turnalı (formerly Os Village) of the Araklı district of Trabzon. Growing up in a family of 15 children, he developed himself at an advanced level in carpentry and handcrafts from a very young age, driven by his own passion and dedication.

He began his working life in Istanbul. Combining the carpentry and craftsmanship skills he gained during his apprenticeship with his mastery, he became the first in Türkiye to locally manufacture and supply wooden television and radio cabinets to various companies.

After his years of work in Istanbul, he settled in the Derince district of Kocaeli, where he continued his professional journey. His first line of work there was the separation of petrochemical waste to supply rubber raw materials to plastic manufacturers in different provinces. In this field, he designed and manufactured his own separation machine, crushing (shredding) machine, and washing machine. His next experience was working as a technical personnel member in two different LPG companies in the same sector. During this time, he conducted studies on the recycling of expired LPG cylinders and the maintenance and improvement of mechanical transfer systems on cylinder filling lines. Following this experience, he founded his own workshop and focused on piston pumps, compressors, and marine propellers.

The main reason behind all these efforts in the field of rotating equipment and mechanics stemmed from his service as a military instructor (1968–1970) at the Istanbul Naval Academy Fire Schools. While transferring the modeling (design) skills he gained there, he also acquired extensive experience in mechanical and rotating equipment. He further reinforced this knowledge through evening education programs at various universities in Istanbul.

Two of his projects continued actively up to the present day: marine propellers and motor pumps. International patent applications were filed for both projects, and these patents were granted in Türkiye and several developed countries. In his work, he preferred producing prototypes and focusing on product development after the design stage. Therefore, he conducted countless tests and prototype productions throughout his career. For the marine propeller project, he carried out test studies at the Haliç Shipyard. Here, he manufactured 1:1 scale propellers and installed them on guide vessels of various power and sizes to perform the tests. In parallel with this, a revision was made to the motor pump project to meet the needs and demands of the Naval Forces Command. With this revision, he improved the project with features such as dry-run capability, high pressure and flow rate with low engine power, and—most importantly—the ability to draw water from a depth of 10 meters within 10–15 seconds without air entrainment. He concluded this achievement after nearly a year of R&D and many prototype tests. A presentation with the prototype was later made at the Naval Forces Command. Although the product was appreciated by its first users, it could not be added to the military inventory at that time. However, as a result of this work, the product began to be requested by various public and private institutions. To meet this demand and institutionalize the product, he established his first company, ESC Pompa A.Ş., in 2010. In 2013, this company was incorporated under KUBE Pump Technologies Industry and Trade Inc., where production continued.

Due to his advancing age, he handed over his experience and knowledge to his son, Sinan Küçük, who had been both an apprentice and a companion on this journey. With this transition, Kube Pump Technologies continued its growth with investments in digitalization and marketing.

As the founder and inventor of these projects, Osman Küçük, while carrying out numerous designs and tests in the production of domestic products, always prioritized “what value he could contribute” over personal gain. With this belief, he passed away on April 5, 2019.

As the employees of KUBE Pump Technologies Industry and Trade Inc., we will continue to honor and uphold the legacy, determination, and passion for innovation entrusted to us by the late Osman Küçük, proudly carrying forward the flag of domestic and national production.
